Online Tool: An Aide for Learners

            There are various online tools that we use very often, but there is always a few that we find more interesting and useful. As we look for tools that can better assist our students in their learning process, we encounter so many of them that we sometimes do not know which one to use at all.  However, as I played around with the different online tools I found, I come to one particular online tool that I think will cater to the needs of my students.    With this online tool, I would be able to assist students who have English as their second language (ESL students) and students with disabilities such as those with mental retardation, autism, learning disabilities and even those who are deaf.  My website is called “The Internet Picture Dictionary” with a URL address http://www.pdictionary.com. The Internet Picture Dictionary website tool has a lot to offer in terms of its utility, navigation, authorship and its relevance to education.

            When it comes to its utility, the Internet Picture Dictionary tool can not be questioned.  The website is totally useful for students with special needs.  Through the use of pictures or visual representations of things, students can learn about those things, on what they are and how they look like.  Basically, comes with the picture is the word or comes with the word is a picture, so students have a better understanding of what the thing is.  I think that this website tool is really valuable for students who need extra help.

            With the navigation of this website tool, students can find their way through the website on their own.  Students just have to click certain categories and the level of difficulty that they want to try on.  It is easy to change activities and to check the performances of each student by clicking on certain buttons.  The website also offers students to review of the knowledge gain in doing certain activities by clicking on the recall button, which will review students of what they have learned through the process of doing those activities online. The website is designed to help students, so they ensure that students would not be hassled in exploring the website by making it easier for them to navigate around.

            When it comes to the authorship of this online tool, I think that the author has thought of those students who really need special help such as those who have English as their second language.  The author had created an online tool that is indeed beneficial to all individuals concern.  The author did a good job in creating the online tool since it can be used to everyone and not only designed for certain group of people.  Parents can use the website to teach their young ones how to read.  Is it not that most books for children shows picture and a description of what the picture is?  Basically, you do not have to invest in so many books in order to teach a child about things.  It is just a click a way.  The author has done a great job in creating this kind of online tool.

            The website tool has relevance to education since it enriches the vocabulary of the users of the tool.  It also serves as an assistive technology tool for those students with disabilities.   Students with special needs can have a better understanding of things because it is presented to them in an enhanced way.  It is really educational because we are teaching students to learn the word, but also what the thing is by showing them pictures that represent such things.  The website tool also offered its services to different languages that you can learn words not only in English, but also in other languages.

Basically, the internet picture dictionary website has a lot to offer in terms of utility, navigation, authorship and its relevance to education.  As a future Special Education teacher, this tool will be a huge help for me and my students.  Not only that I will be able to make use of this website for my future students, but also I can start using it now to educate my son.  Since this tool is done through the use of the computer, most students and even my son would not get bored in doing the different activities in the website. Definitely, I will recommend the website to everyone.  If I have to give a rating for this website, I will give it a 10 for a 1-10 rating scale (10 being the highest).
